155. George Wiggins

1815-1856

George Wiggins was mentioned in his father's estate settlement and thefamily Bible, Morgan County, Alabama marriage records for his firstmarriage.

In the book "Old Land Records of Morgan Co. , AL" by Cowart with theabstract sent me by Ellouise Wynn. (I am not sure what the numbers 174,175 are unless it is the page listed in book) George is shown to havereceived 79.93 acres on 7 June 1856 warrant # 27460 in Township 7 south,Range 4 west, section 28 and S1/2 of SE 1/4 and also same date and samewarrant, 80 acres in Township 7 south, Range 4 west, section 34, W 1/2 ofNW 1/4 for a total of 159.93 acres.

The Final Record of his Estate Settlement is in Book 16 page 254, withJoseph G. Brown the Administrator dated 23 December 1857. (He died in1856)

Report of Real Estate, ordered by court to be sold 20 February 1858 atMrs. Wiggins Saw Mill on 27th March 1858.

Recorded 20 May, 1858

In 1845, George was sent a letter to Waverly, Lowndes County,Mississippi. The family has this letter. He was in Ms. in 1843 when hisfirst wife died 1843, but it is not known if he was in Waverly at thattime. By March 1839, Waverly was named. The settlement was known for it'swealth and refinement. The principal attractions are it's beautifulwomen. The men, however, are said to be powerfully homely. Waverlycontinued to ship cotton till the 1880's. Today all that remains of thetown is the magnificent mansion of George H. Young, one of the early andinfluential residents. It is now in Clay County, MS.


156. Jacob Lassiter (Jake) Wiggins

J.L. Wiggins is shown in "Old Land Records of Morgan Co., AL by Cowartabstracted by Ellouise Wynn page 184
Township 8 South, Range 4 West, section 16 NW1/4 of NW 1/4 40.22 acreson 12 November 1852 Vol C page 92 Patent Record.

Jacob Lassiter Wiggins was in some Indian fighting in 1836, or some ???.The material I have does not say what except he was in Philpotts Co. 4thAL Mounted Volunteers and ordered into service by Major George Jessupfrom 19 June 1836-19 Sept. 1836 signed up in camp "18 miles below Ft.Mitchell, AL. and list J.L. Wiggins as Cpl. On the mustering out rollsays the company only served to 22 July 1836 and he is listed as Jacob L.and 2nd Corp.

404. John Orr Wiggins

1852-1929

He is listed on Sunflower County MS Census for 1880. He is 28 and wifeSallie is 22 page 16, house and dwelling # 167.

They are later found in 1900 in Harris County, Texas and death records ofTexas (index) shows them to have died in Bexar County, Texas. One sonstayed in Houston but another moved to San Antonio and they must havemoved with them.


408. Jacob L. Wiggins

I found 2 notices about Jacob's death in the Decatur Daily. One is datedAugust
11, 1937. It reads:

J.L. WIGGINS
PASSES TODAY
--------------
J. L. Wiggins, aged 77, former Morgan countian but for someyears a
resident of Houston, Texas, died this morning at 1:20 o'clock at the homeof a
nephew, Randolph Sandlin, near McKendrie Chapel. Mr. Wiggins, a memberof one
of this (sic) county's most prominent families had been visitingrelatives in
Morgan and was taken ill Sunday.
Mr. Wiggins is survived by three sons, W. M., G.P. and Chandler
Wiggins, all of Texas; three grandchildren.
Funeral services are tentatively scheduled for three o'clockThursday
afternoon at Herring cemetery, with interment following there, Drinkardand
Howell directing. The hour may be changed on account of the arrival of
relatives.
Pallbearers will be: Robert Summerford, Burl Vest, J.B.Sandlin, R.B.
Orr, Shirley Summerford, Vernon Sandlin. Nieces will have charge of the
flowers.
Mr. Wiggins was a brother of the late Probate Judge M. D.Wiggins and
was the last remaining child.


Another notice reads:

WIGGINS SERVICES
TO BE HELD TODAY
--------------------
Funeral services were being conducted this afternoonfor
J.L. Wiggins, 77, member of one of the most prominent known families inthis
county. The services were being conducted at McKendry Chapel by ReverendMoore,
assisted by Rev. Frank T. Smith. Drinkard-Howell are directing theburial.

Jennie Ada Segars

There was a notice in the De Queen Bee Newspaper of her death. The paperis dated November 22, 1918. It states:

Mrs. J.L. Wiggins
Mrs. J.L. Wiggins died at her home west of De Queen November 12. She hadbeen in feeble health for a long time and suffered an attack ofinfluenza. She is survived by her husband and two sons, one of thelatter being in the Army. She was a member of the Woodmen Circle, andthe remains were laid to rest with ceremonies of that order.

She lived as she died trusting in her Lord


In the Census of 1900, her name is listed as Jeneta A. The 1910 censuslists her name as Ada


3. Jacob and Ada, according to the census, had 6 children. Three aredead. It is unknown to me if these children were stillborn, died ininfancy, etc. The 3 living children were: Wayne M., Chandler Dewy,and Gorman P. Gorman is my father.

160. John Robert Wiggins

John Robert Wiggins is listed in "Old Land Records of Morgan Co. AL" byCowart and abstracted by Ellouise Wynn from page 175.

Warrant # 14371 39.23 1/2 acres in Township 7 S, Range 4 W, NE 1/4 of SW1/4 on 14 November 1849
and # 21040 39.23 1/2 acres in Township 7 S., Range 4 W, SE 1/4 of SW 1/4on 16 November 1854.


161. Mary Elizabeth Wiggins

1814-1863

In the distribution of estate of her father, James Wiggins in MorganCounty, Alabama, Book 11 page 218 dated 28 January 1850, John T. Aycockin right of wife Mary, Negro girl Vina value $585.33 and NW 1/4 OF S31 T7R4 except 10 acres on west boundary and to receive $188.12.

Book 19 page 155 dated 17 February 1863 (Morgan Co. Al.) James and SarahAnn Acock are listed as heirs of Susanna Wiggins. Henry M. Mason torepresent heirs. (There are other grandchildren listed, their parent whois rightful heir is dead)

In James or Susanna's estate papers or Susanna as guardian of Bright H.'schildren, one of the pages contain an Administration of Estate of HenryAcock, listing John T. Acock as son.


163. Stephen Lassiter II

Listed on the 1850 Greene Co. NC census, page 226 as a blacksmith, withchildren given all born NC


164. Robert Lassiter

from Greene Co. NC guardian Bonds 1857-1867
Dr. F.M. Roundtree, Abner Rouse and Uzzell Lassiter for bond of $2,000.Abner Rouse to be guardian to Elizabeth, Jesse and Catherine Lassiter on14 May 1866. filed May 1866

It must be these children of Robert and perhaps Eliza is a Rouse.


442. Charles Amon Lassiter

This is apparently the C. A. Lasitter who drew the chart found in JoynerLibrary.


177. James Lemon Lassiter

There is also a listing for Lucy Jane Lassiter submitted by FABER1 asbeing born 25 April 1853 who may be a daughter of this couple and thereare later entries for descendants.

Also a James L. Lassiter, Township 7 S Range 1 west NW 1/4 of NW 1/4,section 27, 40.03 1/4 acres on 19 March 1853 # 17424 Thos from Old MorganCo. Land Entries but is also listed on Ancestry.com The only otherinformation given is that he did sign his name and this was a cash-entry.


443. James Monroe Lassiter

Probably this is the James Monroe Lassiter listed as being born 2 Dec.1855 and died 5 Oct. 1929 also submitted by FABER1. This entry shows hemarried Mary Lucy Davis.
