Rouse in Virginia

From Cindy - CDVal808@aol.com

Ran across 2 references to Abraham ROUSE in Isle of Wight Co., VA.
June 1670, Abraham was a witness to a land deed between William RUFFIN and
Katherine THORNTON. Others names mentioned: Arthur WHITEHEAD, Rebecca
THORNTON and Robert KING.

October, 1670, Abraham witnessed Moses POWELL giving power of attorney to
Capt. John PONTIS. Other names: W. PORTER? Richard SHARP.

Thought I would pass this along.

My small library has the index to the NC Historical and Genealogical
Register but not the Register itself. (What exactly is it?) Anyway, John
Rouse is listed on page 445 of Vol. 3 and Joseph Rouse is listed on page
444 of Vol. 3 if anyone has access to the real thing.

Came across two more Rouses in a book called Virginia Wills and
Administrations:

Robert Rouse of Norfolk--1687 w.

Abraham Rouse as a witness to a deed (between William Ruffin and Katherine
Thornton) on June 9, 1670; also as on Oct. 12, 1670 as witness to Moses
Powell giving power of attorney to Capt. John Pontis.

Thought some of you might be interested in what I found today in the very
limited collection of the Poquoson library about the Rouses and the Brights
in a book called Early Virginia Immigrants. Of course, I don't know if any
of them were connected with our Dobbs County people. I think these were
people whose immigration was sponsored by others. I learned a little about
this when I thought (sigh) that I was descended from Capt. Thomas Graves.
Sponsoring people was a way to get land in the early days of the Virginia
colony. Capt. Graves sponsored many people and was awarded lots of land
for his efforts.
