SIMON ROUSE MURDERED BY EZEKIEL CREECH

These clippings were sent to me by Russell King who copied
   them from

microfilm of a New Bern paper or two different papers, but he
   did not

note the paper or the date of the paper. Another clipping
   indicates

   this was the Newbern Sentinel.

   Newbern, Saturday, June 9, 1827

Murder - a murder was committed in Lenoir County, on the 28th
   ult.

The particulars of which as related to us, are as follows: On
   the

evening of the 27th, a daughter of Ezekiel Creek, was carried
   off and

married to one Bender, contrary to the will of her father.
   Simon Rouse,

a neighbour, was supposed by Creech to have been an accomplice
   in the

elopement, and on their meeting the next day, a dispute
   ensued, which

ended in the death of Rouse. The murder was perpetrated by
   Creech's

discharging the contents of a loaded gun through the left
   breast of

the deceased. The Jury of Inquest, gave a verdict of "Wilful
   Murder".

   Creech is yet at large.

Another paper or at least another date

Ezekiel Creech, the murderer of Simon Rouse, surrendered
   himself into

the hand of justice, a few days since, and is now confined in
   Lenoir

   jail.
