Carr Family  

Introduction

A number of years ago, we spent over a year working on the Carr family both in Virginia and in North Carolina. Due to a lack of records we were not able to put much of the family together so went on to other projects. This past spring Jack Elliott contacted us with questions on the Carr family and that led to a number of Bibles and other records he had found in Mississippi on the Carr and allied families. These records helped fill in some of the holes we had so we went back to putting the family on a database. We still have holes, but not as many. We hope someone can assist with additional information.

This family went from Nansemond to Hertford to Greene Counties - three burned counties in a row so documentation is scarce. Ruth descends from Titus and that is documented and Martha from Matthew but that is only circumstantial.

A number of people have added information in addition to Jack, including Angie Carruth who provided the Lawrence Carr, Jr. Bible. We had some of the records of the late Lula Carr Payne and found a number of notes in various Collections at Joyner Library, ECU.
