There is some writing on the back. It
says (I am using their spelling) "Grate uncle Joe Hardage-he
owned the old clock in this house and china cabinet. He was
Aunt Mary Taylor husband, at her death he married Aunt
Mattie, cousin to Aunt Mary" Then in red ink it says "Aunt
Mattie gave this to me. Signed Lillie Ruth (Bryan) Mack"

A.J. Hardage married Sara Schwartz. This is them seated in the photo. The little boy is a grandson, Frank Harrell. The older female standing is his mother Addie Hardage, who married a Harrell. The younger female in the middle is Nina Hardage. (Pronounced like "Nine-a"). The boys in the back are from left James Woodrow Hardage (called "J.W." or "Bud"), Frank Hardage, and Jesse Hardage (called "Uncle Jess"). These were all children of Andrew Jackson Hardage and Sara Schwartz Hardage, who are seated in the photo. They had one more daughter, whose name grandaddy pronounced "Elafare." He didn't know how to spell this and neither do I. That is what they called her, though. She died very young and isn't pictured here. |
