INTRODUCTION

There is no indication where James Davis came from nor is there any indication of a connection with the other James Davis line in the same area. Catherine is usually said to be a Wendal, but there is no circumstantial evidence for that claim. There is some circumstantial that her father was Wendal Blythers/Blithers who, according to Victor Jones, may have been a Paletine in the 2nd wave which came into the area ca 1730. There is a later Wendal Blythers who may have been this person or a son. Wendal was the guardian of the children of Christian and Mary Zeorge in 1732. Zeorge also written as Leorge/Ziorjen - first name Jakob - a Paletine. Zeorge 's wife was Catherine - children Jacob d 1737, Christian, Mary who md Hugh Stannaland by 1737. The name is found later written as Zeagler. Did Wendal marry the daughter Catherine? The first name Christian is found in the Davis family.

Some have said that Catherine Davis Taylor re-married to Richard Prescott but that does not appear to be the case. Richard moved to Georgia and his Will does indicate a connection, but the connection is not clear. Catherine is found on the Lenoir Census in her own household. The Will of Rachel Davis mentions several other people with no relationship but at least some of them were probably siblings either with no heirs or step children.

This family appears to have always lived in what is today Lenoir County but some of their land must have been later included in Duplin for which we are most grateful. Some of the Davis lines have been followed and many descendants still live in Lenoir County.
